Meet Kristine

My name is Kristine Nyborg, it’s pronounced Kristina and my pronouns are she/her. I make honest pictures of daily life. Everywhere there’s everyday, and everywhere it’s different. I have photographed in the Arctic regions, exploring subsistence lifestyles, animal care, and the warmth of humanity in some of the coldest places on earth. I am currently working on photographs that communicate loss of cultural immersion and language. This work is influenced by my own experiences as a Norwegian in North America, blending in but always slightly out of sync.

In my project, Learning To Speak Bear, I invite you into the metamorphosis of motherhood. This process has helped me learn to read the languages of my children’s bodies—subtle yet demanding. This work is about childhood told from the mother’s point of view. It will be published as a book by Yoffy Press in the fall of 2022.
