Technology_failures

Hello,

This past week my trusted Macbook took a plunge.

This was not at all unexpected, I have had this computer since 2012, it has seen me through the last days of photojournalism, the first days of motherhood, the shedding of an old identity, the discovery of a new one, the slow build of a small business and the writing of three workshops.

I`m grateful to this piece of aluminum filled with wires and cables and logic boards and whatever else they hide in there. I have faced some of my greatest challenges while sitting at that computer.

I don`t get attached to many things, but I can safely say I am quite dependent on some things more than others. My computer and my camera ranking the highest in the stuffs category of my life. So when the computer went pffft one Thursday morning I felt completely lost for at least three hours.

It felt a bit like loosing a friend. More than any other computer this one has lived the longest, worked the hardest and seen me through the most change in my life. I have cried into this computer more than any other computer, it has seen me through some of the darkest and brightest moods I`ve ever experienced and it has been the tool I have built a new life with while standing barefoot in the kitchen fending tantrums from my little people.

But it`s a thing.

I can and will replace it. I have the data backed up, and didn`t loose anything I can`t do again.

Here`s a friendly reminder: Back up your work. Today. Now.

Technology fails all the time.

All for now,

Kristine
