Newsletter - Those strangers, how do I ever...

Hi,

However do we approach strangers for photographs?

I'm not going to lie, I haven't always loved it. In fact, I used to be terrified of approaching strangers to ask for their photo, or their names after I made a photo.

But I did love the excitement of having a photo. A photograph of a person. Someone I didn't know.

Over time, and with a now fairly large sample size of human subjects, I've found out two things: 1. People are really friendly for the most part, and 2. Making photographs of strangers gives a fantastic sense of accomplishment.

So how do we do this? Overcome our fears and make photographs of strangers?

One stranger at a time. I can almost guarantee that it will get easier down the line, and in time you'll probably like it so much you'll just want to go out all the time searching for a good stranger to have a conversation with.

Because strangers are just humans you don't know yet.

Start by practicing just talking to strangers. The weather, the latest in sports, the northern lights, anything that is non-controversial. See where it takes you. If the stranger responds to your words in a friendly manner, chances are you have a friendly one on your hands. If you feel up for it, ask for a photo. If not, maybe next time...

Do you enjoy photographing strangers?

All for now,

Kristine
